  8.  AB    OBJECTIVE: To evaluate Canada's HIV research agenda from a community
  9.        perspective. METHODS: A two day meeting of 33 treatment activists from
  10.        20 organizations was held to review AIDS research in Canada. A document
  11.        summarizing the discussion and recommendations was circulated for
  12.        comments and finalized. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: Thirty recommendations
  13.        were directed to government, basic and clinical researchers,
  14.        pharmaceutical companies and community groups. These included the
  15.        identification of basic and clinical research priorities, the
  16.        development of a collaborative funding lobby and mechanisms to provide
  17.        better compassionate access to experimental therapies.
